Nature has done a brilliant job in creating systems that can look after themselves. When you look at the human body and it's ability to produce a natural anti-oxidant called Glutathione, it's an excellent example of what I'm talking about.
Glutathione is the product of three amino acids and it's present in every cell in our body. Given its value to the immune system through its ability to create lymphocytes- cells which valiantly battle different diseases, it's good to know that we have it everywhere.
Since our natural levels of glutathione begin to decline rather sharply once we leave our twenties, it's a good idea to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables to keep our bodies well supplied with the amino acids from which glutathione is formed. Oral supplements don't seem to help much. So be sure to include lots of asparagus, watermelon and even whey protein in your diet - all good foods to support glutathione production.
Glutathione not only works as an antioxidant, but it can also help our body repair itself after radiation treatment, infection, stress, injury, poor diet, and even burns and trauma. Antioxidants are capable of neutralizing free radicals. Basically, it keeps our cells working as they should. It also helps the liver remove foreign chemicals and other pollutants. In fact, most glutathione is produced in the liver.
What is glutathione good for? Glutathione is good for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's Disease, cataracts, cancer and high blood pressure. It's been connected to infertility in men. It can help repair cell damage caused by radiation and chemotherapy - but according to many studies there is reason to expect that it won't react the same with every person. Lots of research is still being done but there have been some very positive testimonials from people who have increased their glutathione levels.
Meet Larry. For fifteen years Larry suffered from a condition that created extended periods of total fatigue. In his words " I completely ran out of gas." According to the five doctors on the team treating Larry, his immune system was severely compromised and he suffered from anemia and iron deficiency. The many supplements and medications he was taking were not helpful.
Larry started to take a Glutathione precursor designed to help his body produce more of this natural anti oxidant around the middle of December and after only three days, while he said he was tired after doing the Christmas decorations, it was just a normal level of tiredness. He woke up the next day feeling energetic and for the next week while he waited for his usual levels of exhaustion to kick in - they didn't. After only being able to really function normally for about an hour a day, Larry was soon able to start leading a normal life.
Within a few weeks he was working normal hours (actually they were rather long 16 hour days) and some of this other ailments started to clear up as well. A long term feeling of discomfort in his hands cleared up as did his own mental clarity. Can you imagine being so tired for so long that you almost forgot how to think through anything but the simplest problem? What a way to get your life back.
He shared the story of his wonderful new life with his brother who is a physician. He in turn was also impressed with difference that increased glutathione levels made in Larry's life. Best of all, Larry was able to kick his 78 vitamins and mineral supplements a day habit. He is excited about the improvement in his health and the way he feels and he's excited again about what life has to offer.
