Points to consider when installing steel pipes

Steel pipes are a common feature within many industries. These pipes are used both as conduits for substances required across the internal manufacturing process, and also as the main means of supply to third parties. When designing and installing such networks of pipes and pipe fittings it is essential to consider the following criteria.
Firstly, what are the specific properties of the substances being transferred within the pipes? Are they, for example, highly volatile or corrosive substances such as gases or petrochemicals? Are they substances which are normally in a state of extremely high temperature? Would any leakage of the pipe fittings prove more than an economic embarrassment: in other words would a leak threaten the safety of workers or the general public?
The second consideration is the external environment in which the pipes will be placed. This external environment can also be subject to corrosive forces, such as salt water. It may be an extremely hot or cold environment. Also, the threat of accidental damage could be higher in some locations.
Thirdly, will the new network be a self-contained construction using only new pipe fittings, or will the pipes need to be connected in any way to existing pipes? Where two different pipe networks are due to be amalgamated in this way it is vital to ensue that the pipe fittings and flanges are compatible with one another.
At ChemiPetro we offer expert advice on the most suitable and economical solutions for the particular needs of any industry, stocking pipes and flanges in a range of sizes and materials including the highly durable, anti-corrosion, and heat-resistant alloys known as duplex and super duplex.
