Cardiff attracts lots of visitors every year, meaning there are plenty of jobs in the service industry to be found here. One survey stated that one in five people who are employed in Cardiff are based in the distribution, hotels and restaurants sector. In 2006 the same survey recorded around 12 million visitors to the Welsh Capital, making it one of the most popular tourist destination cities in the UK, with almost 9,000 hotel bed spaces from the cities many hotels which are abundant and range in size and standards.

For shopping in Cardiff, much of the action is around St.Mary’s Street and Queen Street, in the centre of the city although there are retail parks dotted around, in Cardiff Bay and Culverhouse Cross to name but a few.

St. David’s Centre, in the heart of the city has recently undergone a £675 million makeover and is now one of the largest shopping centers in Great Britain.

It is also host to the largest film TV and multimedia sector in the whole of the United Kingdom, with the exception of London with ITV Wales, BBC Wales and S4C being located here.

It is not just the big names however that are to be found in the capital, with a sector of independent TV production industries of over 6000 employees spread between in excess of 600 companies.

With Valleywood, the first completely new film studios in the UK for over 30 years are the biggest in the UK. The studio was unveiled by Richard Attenborough due to make its first movie, which is rumored to be called Ironclad, rumors circulating that a model castle has been brought onto set.
